GOP Watching Gustav to Decide on Convention

GOP leaders are monitoring Hurricane Gustav "from day to day" to decide whether to delay the Republican National Convention, John McCain said today. “It just wouldn't be appropriate to have a festive occasion while a near-tragedy or a terrible challenge is presented in the form of a natural disaster,” he said in a taped interview for tomorrow's Fox News Sunday.

Meanwhile officials at the convention, slated for Monday in St. Paul, Minn., say they are preparing for other Gustav-related problems—such as delegations and speakers who can't come. "The safety of our affected delegations is our first priority, and preparing for Gustav comes before anything else," the convention's CEO told Politico in a statement.
