Monday brings a new mix of tension and uncertainty over the Iran war, with an American delegation traveling overseas for talks even as Tehran threatens retaliation over the US seizure of an Iranian cargo ship. Details:

  • Talks: President Trump says a team led by JD Vance will arrive in Pakistan by Monday evening for new talks, but the BBC reports that it remains unclear if anyone from Iran will attend. "While claiming diplomacy and readiness for negotiations, the US is carrying out behaviors that do not in any way indicate seriousness in pursuing a diplomatic process," says foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei.

  • Ship video: The US released a video of a Navy destroyer firing at the Iranian-flagged Touska near the Strait of Hormuz. The American vessel repeatedly warned the other to stop. "Vacate your engine room, vacate your engine room, we're prepared to subject you to disabling fire," says a voice over loudspeaker. The video doesn't show the impact of the strikes on the ship's engine room. Marines later boarded the vessel, and the US may tow it to Oman, per the New York Times.
  • Oil, stocks: The new tensions—Iran has threatened retaliation for the ship seizure—have sent the price of a barrel of Brent crude up 6% to $96 a barrel, reports CNBC. Dow futures were down about 250 points, or 0.5%, early Monday.
