Rudy Giuliani is in a Florida hospital in critical but stable condition, his spokesman said Sunday, offering no details on the medical issue or the facility treating him. The 81-year-old former New York City mayor and onetime personal lawyer to President Trump was described by spokesman Ted Goodman as "a fighter," who asked the public to keep Giuliani in their prayers, the New York Times reports.
Trump weighed in on Truth Social, calling Giuliani a "True Warrior" and "the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR," while again repeating his false claim that Democrats rigged the 2020 presidential election: "What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL—AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!" The AP reports that had hosted his online show, "America's Mayor Live," as usual Friday night but that he coughed and had a raspy voice.
Giuliani, who led New York through the aftermath of 9/11 and later became central to Trump's failed bid to overturn the 2020 result, has in recent years faced mounting legal and financial troubles, including multiple indictments, expensive defamation suits, and disbarment. He was also seriously injured in a 2025 car crash in New Hampshire that left him with a fractured vertebra; in the aftermath, he made at least one public appearance in a wheelchair. In the run-up to the 2000 election, he abandoned a Senate bid while battling prostate cancer, ABC 7 reports.
