Kid Cudi's latest tour just got one name shorter, the Guardian reports. The rapper has dropped MIA as his opener after the British musician's onstage comments in Dallas triggered boos and a wave of complaints from his fans. During the May 2 show, MIA told the crowd at Cudi's concert that she'd been "canceled" for being "a brown Republican voter," and joked about being "illegal," according to footage posted online. "We can't perform [my song] 'Illegal,' though some of you could be in the audience," she said, to boos. "All right, I'm illegal," she continued. "Half of my team are not here because they didn't get the visa, OK? I want you to know that. All right? So don't listen to what the bots say on the internet."
Cudi announced her removal in an Instagram Story, saying he had warned her team beforehand that he didn't want "anything offensive" on the tour and that fans had been "upset by her rants," Variety reports. He called the situation "very disappointing" and said he wouldn't keep someone on the road who angered his audience. MIA later defended her remarks on X, tying them to her decade-old track "Illygal" and arguing that "if the law is unjust" it should be challenged. She also responded to questions about whether she voted for President Trump by noting she can't vote in the US, and added, "48% of Latin community voted trump. So are you going to hate them all?" Consequence of Sound reports she has endorsed Trump in the past. Cudi's move follows years of controversy around her anti-vaccine, anti-5G, and anti-"cancel culture" posts.
