Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's evening dog walk near his new home on the Sandringham Estate turned tense when a man in a balaclava ran toward him, shouting abuse. The former prince, who was with a private security officer, ran to his car and drove off as the man allegedly tried to give chase, the Telegraph reports. "Officers were called to Wolferton shortly after 7.30pm on Wednesday following a report that a man was behaving in an intimidating manner in the village," a Norfolk Constabulary spokesman said. "Officers attended, and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon."
The incident unfolded on a public lane near Marsh Farm, the rural property the disgraced ex-prince moved to after leaving Royal Lodge in Windsor last year, amid the loss of his royal allowance and state-funded security. The estate is largely open to visitors, raising long-running concerns about his protection. Sources tell the Telegraph that the man had been sitting in his car when he saw Mountbatten-Windsor around 50 yards away.
In recent months, security measures at Marsh Farm have been stepped up with new fencing, CCTV, an extended no-fly zone, and a mobile home for staff. The AP notes that Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his royal titles and "banished from public view" by the royal family last year over scandals including his links to Jeffrey Epstein. In February, he was arrested on his 66th birthday following reports that he had sent confidential trade documents to Epstein.
