Disney Manager Gets Prison After Drug Arrest at Airport

A Disney manager's stopover in Moscow has ended with a prison term. A court in the Moscow region on Friday sentenced Jugal Daterao to 2½ years in a medium-security facility after finding him guilty of drug possession and smuggling, Russian state media reported. He was detained in January at Sheremetyevo International Airport during a layover from Qatar, the Moscow Times reports, when customs officers found THC-infused gummies in his luggage.

Daterao told the court the cannabis candies had been legally prescribed in the US to help with his recovery from brain surgery. The judge at Khimki City Court also imposed a fine of about $420. Daterao's LinkedIn page describes him as a New York-based tech executive and program director at the Walt Disney Co. since 2019. Russian outlets identified him as an Indian citizen; whether he also holds US citizenship was unclear.
