Officials Suggest Building Trump's Arch 20 Hours a Day

A 250-foot monument that would reshape Washington's skyline now comes with a race-the-clock construction plan, writes Dan Diamond for the Washington Post. New National Park Service documents show the Trump administration suggests work on President Trump's proposed triumphal arch run for 20 hours a day, year-round, in hopes of finishing prior to the end of his term. Diamond flags two other details contained in the documents:

• The structure would not be build wholly from natural stone, as were the Lincoln Memorial and other monuments, but would be concrete topped with granite. The approach, experts say, would also help speed up the construction process.
• Its construction would also necessitate the use of cranes as tall as 320 feet. The planned site sits under a Reagan National Airport flight path, where planes can fly as low as 500 feet. The FAA is in the midst of a study on the arch.

A 10-day comment period for the public to offer opinions on the arch project closes Monday.
