White House Pushing 'Freedom Fuel' Gas Stations

The volatile issue of gas prices got an unusual political twist this week: The White House is promoting a new "Freedom Fuel" network of 25 gas stations offering cheaper fill-ups, most of them in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, reports USA Today. In a post on X, the administration said the stations in Philadelphia and elsewhere are charging $3.47 a gallon, a nod to President Trump as the 47th president. The stations, 20 in Pennsylvania and five in New Jersey, are run by a private company and receive no federal subsidies, a White House official tells the Hill. Few details were known about the company behind the rebranded stations.

Whatever the politics, drivers interviewed sounded pretty happy with the markedly lower prices: AAA puts the average price of regular gas at $3.99 in Pennsylvania and $3.89 in New Jersey. It was not clear how long the lower-than-market prices would last, notes regional station 6ABC. The rollout comes amid fresh turmoil in global oil markets tied to renewed conflict with Iran.
