President Trump says if Iran ever manages to kill him, the response has already been scripted, and it's an aggressive one. Speaking to the New York Post on Friday, the president said he has "left instructions" for the US to unleash bombing on Iran "at levels that they've never seen before" if an assassination plot against him succeeds. He described himself as Iran's top target, saying he's been "No. 1" on its list "for a long time," and added, "I hope you'll miss me."

Trump, however, downplayed recent Israeli intelligence reports of a new assassination plot, saying there was "nothing" fresh, but argued Tehran has sought revenge since his 2020 decision to kill Gen. Qasem Soleimani. Anti-Trump banners and chants surfaced this week at the funeral events for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, where a eulogist called Trump's death a duty. In response to Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Trump scrapped a tentative ceasefire and ordered nearly 200 strikes inside Iran. He also briefly switched planes returning from a NATO summit in Ankara, a move the White House later framed as a security precaution.
