Dog Needs Mountain Rescue, and Marijuana Is Blamed

A hike up the UK's tallest peak turned into a rescue operation after a black Labrador collapsed on the Ben Nevis trail—likely after eating abandoned cannabis. Dog trainer Christina Bluhme says Tokyo, her normally energetic working dog, lost the use of her legs and drifted in and out of consciousness halfway up the 4,413-foot mountain during a trip to Scotland last weekend, reports the BBC. Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team stretchered the 55-pound dog down to Crown Vets in Fort William, where staff told Bluhme they suspect Tokyo had ingested marijuana left along the path.

The dog was unconscious for most of the descent but had fully recovered by the next day, per the Scottish Sun. Bluhme, who praised rescuers for their "kindness" and "professionalism," is now urging people to be more careful when tossing drugs and other dangerous substances—even in seemingly remote locales.
