Driver Faces DUI Charge After 600-Foot Plunge

A suspected impaired driver in Northern California is alive after a fall that would typically end with a body recovery, not an arrest. The California Highway Patrol says a pickup went off State Route 263 in Siskiyou County, plunging an estimated 600 feet down a steep cliff before coming to rest at the bottom of a rocky mountainside, Fox News reports.

Photos released by CHP show the truck crumpled and barely recognizable, with debris scattered down the slope, KTLA reports. Officers said the driver, whose name has not been released, was found at the scene and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence; the agency has not detailed the person's injuries. Calling the survival "remarkable," CHP used the crash to renew its warning about getting behind the wheel while impaired.
