A security scare may be brewing around Vice President JD Vance's protective bubble. A Secret Service agent assigned to his detail has been placed on administrative leave and is under internal investigation, accused of feeding details about Vance's movements to the press, two sources familiar with the matter tell CNN. The probe, led by the agency's internal affairs arm, is focused on whether the employee was a source for an MS NOW report that described agents' frustrations with Vance's personal travel schedule and outlined specific, later-canceled plans, including a Marine Corps helicopter trip with his son to a golf lesson.
The disclosure of such operational details reportedly angered officials at the Secret Service, FBI, and White House. It's not yet clear whether the agent could face disciplinary action or criminal charges. "One principle is unequivocal: Any conduct that potentially threatens the potential safety of a protectee will not be tolerated," a Secret Service spokesperson tells TMZ.
The inquiry comes as the Trump administration intensifies efforts to clamp down on leaks. Earlier this month, four New York Times journalists were subpoenaed over stories on security features aboard a Qatar-funded presidential aircraft for President Trump. The Independent notes that in May, the administration floated the idea of a mandate that would require federal workers to sign off on an NDA on circulating "confidential government information." The Secret Service and MS NOW haven't publicly commented on the latest development, per CNN.
