'That happens pretty regularly inside the Oval Office,' says CNN anchor

Kaitlan Collins says she's not interested in trading insults with the man she covers in the White House. Appearing on the Daily Show (video here), the CNN anchor told Jon Stewart that President Trump's jabs at her during the White House Correspondents' Association dinner aren't something she takes personally: "It's really not about me, and I don't want it to be about my reaction," she said, per the Hill. It's also nothing new: "That happens pretty regularly inside the Oval Office," she said. "This is just a bigger venue where it was happening."

Collins suggested Trump's irritation stems from a WHCA award she received for her reporting on his administration, an honor he mocked as "fake" during his remarks at the rescheduled dinner. He also took a shot at her appearance:

  • "I thought Kaitlan had really made it big with a major new sponsorship, but then I informed her that it wasn't her on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney." EW notes that the joke was met with silence.
Collins' response is to keep steering attention back to her journalism: When Trump attacks, she said, it's "more effective to remind people" of the questions she asked and "the non-answers that we get." Trump has long clashed with both Collins and CNN.
