Bodycam Shows Tony Romo Arguing With Cop During Arrest

Tony Romo's traffic stop in Wisconsin escalated quickly, newly released police bodycam video shows. Pulled over on a Milwaukee interstate around 6pm on July 23, the former Cowboys quarterback told an officer he was coming from the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament, heading to see his grandparents, and had consumed "zero" drinks, per the New York Post. When the officer asked him to step out for field sobriety tests, Romo instead said he wanted to call his lawyer and began recording on his phone, sparking a tense back-and-forth before he exited the car and was handcuffed.

"Because I'm coming from a golf course you think I'm drunk?" Romo asked the officer at one point. At a nearby station, the officer cited "red, glassy eyes," the smell of alcohol, and unopened mini-bottles in his bag. Romo proceeded to perform "poorly" on all field sobriety tests, per the Post and TMZ. He appeared to "not understand the instructions for a fairly simple heel-to-toe walking exercise," per NBC Sports. He declined a breath test, saying lawyers generally advise against it. "Did I pass this test?" he then asked the officer, who told him to turn around. "No, I didn't. Huh?" Romo added. He was cited for first-offense operating while intoxicated and for refusing testing, with a Sept. 21 court date. He has yet to publicly respond.
