Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is adding "cooking-show host" to his resume. The Health and Human Services secretary has debuted "The Real Food Show," a White House–backed online series that shadows him in kitchens around the country as he promotes the Trump administration's "Make America Healthy Again" agenda, Entertainment Weekly reports. The official description pitches the show as a way to make home cooking "simple and accessible" with low-cost recipes, basic techniques, and nutrition tips, plus guest appearances from chefs and allies.
The series doubles as a showcase for Kennedy's controversial overhaul of federal dietary guidelines, which flipped the classic food pyramid to put meat and dairy—along with fruits and vegetables—at the top and whole grains at the bottom. Some nutrition experts have praised the focus on less-processed "real food," while others are uneasy about the heavier push for red meat and whole milk. The first episode, already on YouTube, features Kennedy making salmon cakes and an apple-bean salad with chef Andrew Gruel, a fellow vaccine skeptic.
Kennedy tells USA Today that the show aims to teach people that cooking at home can be cheaper and healthier. "Fast food is not less expensive,'' he says. ''That meal costs $12 to $14. People can eat a lot cheaper at home and a lot better food. But many Americans have forgotten how to cook. It's becoming a lost art." Kennedy's own eating habits have been questioned, EW notes. "I am on a carnivore diet. I only eat meat or fermented foods," he said earlier this year, apparently contradicting his own advice on eating fruits and vegetables. In 2024, he bragged about having a "freezer full" of roadkill. His campaign later said it was to feed his birds.
