Trump Rips Pirro Over Case on Reflecting Pool Damage

President Trump insisted Saturday that vandals are to blame for the damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, even after the Justice Department contradicted his narrative. He ripped US Attorney Jeanine Pirro for moving to drop the felony destruction-of-property charge against former Olympian David Hearn, the Hill reports, writing on Truth Social that he doesn't know "what she was thinking" and disagrees "100%" with her decision. It was "a pure case of VANDALISM," the president posted. Prosecutors on Friday asked a judge to dismiss the charge, saying newly obtained records show the pool's damage stemmed from construction problems, including rushing the work.

They said the section Hearn was accused of cutting wasn't where the broader damage likely began and that a National Park Service engineer flagged peeling days before Hearn's arrest. Trump, who shared video he says shows material being sliced with a knife or box cutter, acknowledged contractor issues but maintained "the major damage was caused by VANDALS." Pirro earlier had agreed with Trump, the Washington Post points out, saying she had "tremendous evidence" that Hearn was guilty of a felony. A judge will decide whether the case is formally dismissed.
