Ohio Lawmaker Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run

Ohio's longest-serving House member spent Sunday in a hospital after a crash Toledo police are calling a hit-skip, WTVG reports. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, 80, was a passenger in a vehicle headed to a church service when it was struck Sunday morning on North Detroit Avenue near Central Avenue, authorities said. "The driver of the at-fault vehicle fled the scene," police said in a statement cited by Fox News. Kaptur and one other person were taken to a local hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening. Kaptur's office said she is awake, responsive, and receiving treatment, and that she hopes to resume a full schedule soon.

In a statement, she thanked police, firefighters, medical staff, and constituents who reached out. Toledo police say the investigation is in its early stages, and it's not yet clear whether the driver who left the scene has been identified. Kaptur, a Democrat, has been in office 43 years and is the chamber's longest-serving female member, the Guardian reports. She is currently running for reelection.
