Cheney's Cardiologist Has Health Questions for Trump

Americans knew a lot about the late Dick Cheney's heart; Dr. Jonathan Reiner thinks they know far too little about President Trump's. In a New York Times opinion piece, Reiner—Cheney's cardiologist for 27 years, including both his terms as VP—argues that presidential health disclosures remain largely voluntary and unreliable. He contrasts Trump's glowing May health report with what his own eyes have observed. "Trump is probably the most photographed president in American history," writes Reiner, "and a variety of physical ailments are easy to see": bruising on both hands, leg swelling, and apparent daytime drowsiness.

While Reiner allows it's OK to withhold sensitive details (details about some tech features of Cheney's defibrillator weren't made public, he notes), he also advocates for the formation of a congressional commission that would assess each president's health and fitness, a move the 25th Amendment allows.
