BBC Seeks Help Subpoenaing Trump Children

The BBC's courtroom clash with President Trump is expanding to include his eldest children and son-in-law. In new filings, the broadcaster says Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner should be compelled to testify in the president's $10 billion defamation suit over a 2024 BBC documentary on the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, Politico reports. The network's lawyers argue the three have direct insight into Trump's thinking as he drafted and delivered his Ellipse speech to supporters that day, and they're seeking both sworn testimony and documents.

Serving the subpoenas has proven difficult: Attempts at Ivanka and Kushner's Miami home were turned away by police, with the Secret Service saying it couldn't accept service. An effort to serve Trump's son at Trump Tower in New York also failed. The BBC's Friday filing asks a federal court in Miami to allow service by mail or through the president's lawyers. A Trump legal spokesperson accused the broadcaster of harassing the family to distract from its "obvious liability." The filing says Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump were present in the Oval Office when Trump was revising his speech, per the AP.
