Rosie O'Donnell Hits at Trump Without Mentioning His Name

Jimmy Kimmel Live guest host said move would have the president 'crying'

Rosie O'Donnell made her return to late night by barely touching the feud that helped put her there. Guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday, O'Donnell never mentioned President Trump's name, instead focusing her monologue on her new life in Ireland, where she moved after his reelection out of concern for policies affecting her nonbinary, autistic child, per the Washington Post. Trump also threatened to revoke her citizenship, despite lacking the authority. Her main jab: calling him "Mango Mussolini" while quoting her child's line that they were moving because "the president hates my mother"—and "my mother hates him more."

O'Donnell then stared into the camera, waved, and said, "I know you're watching," later joking that the president would be "crying because I haven't mentioned him." She did perform Trump's signature dance move as the crowd chanted her name, and joked that much has changed since her 1990s talk show reign. "Back then, there was a war in the Middle East, climate change was ravaging our planet. We had a president who was embroiled in scandals. But today, everything is so chill," she said, per the New York Times. Her guest-hosting run—arranged by Kimmel "as a special treat" for Trump—continues through Thursday with guests including Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and Janelle James.
