Britain's Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are rewinding one of their biggest life decisions: They're moving back to England, ending their self-imposed exile. The family, which includes Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, will make the change this month, People reports, with the children due to start school there in September. The couple will keep their California home and a holiday place in Portugal while taking on a new, private residence in the UK that will be their primary residence, per NBC News. The location of the UK home is being kept under wraps. King Charles III, Harry's father, was informed of the plan, which was not discussed when he saw the couple and their children in England last month, on Sunday.

The couple's status as nonworking royals will not change; they'll remain private individuals when in Britain, per the New York Times. Harry announced in January 2020 that he and his wife were gong to "step back" from their official duties. His honorary military titles and royal patronage appointments were removed the next year. Harry has waged a long-running fight over what he considers inadequate UK security arrangements for himself and his family. In May 2025, after losing a round in court on the issue, per the Guardian, Harry said, "I can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point."
