President Trump is turning to imported hamburgers in a bid to cool voter anger over prices. On Friday, he said his administration will temporarily spare 300,000 metric tons of imported ground beef from tariffs, arguing it will both lower costs and give US ranchers breathing room to rebuild cattle numbers. "This deal will reduce prices for Americans while giving space for our Great American Beef Herd to grow again," wrote Trump on Truth Social, blaming Biden-era policies for both soaring prices and herd reduction.

The president noted that the beef will be sold at a quarter under current prices, though CNBC notes that Trump did not specify who the deal was with. The timing is hard to miss, reports Politico: midterms are looming, and the outlet's July polling found voters—including many Trump supporters—see the cost of living as the top failure of his second term. US ranchers are expected to push back over a surge of foreign beef.
