Watchdog Goes After Pirro for Her Attempt to Indict 6 Dems

A government ethics group is asking New York's court Grievance Committee to punish one of Washington's top prosecutors. The Legal Accountability Center has filed a bar complaint against Jeanine Pirro, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, accusing her of improperly pushing for criminal charges against six Democratic lawmakers over their video telling US troops they can refuse unlawful orders, which infuriated President Trump. The complaint alleges, per the Hill, that Pirro's order was "unwarranted, frivolous, and would serve merely to harass or maliciously injure the targets of her order." Further, "she knew or should have known, as a government prosecutor, that her directive to seek indictments was not legally or factually supported by 'probable cause.'"

A grand jury rejected Pirro's case, which relied on a statute against undermining military morale. The complaint says Pirro's directive was politically driven, targeting critics of President Trump. The group argues the lawmakers' remarks were clearly protected by the First Amendment and lacked probable cause for indictment. Two Pirro subordinates who worked on the case were also the subject of complaints. A Pirro spokesperson dismissed the filing, per the AP, saying that "attempting to weaponize the disciplinary process against prosecutors for doing their jobs amounts to nothing more than a frivolous complaint."
