Johnson Endorses Max Miller Despite Abuse Allegations

House Speaker Mike Johnson endorsed Rep. Max Miller for a third term on Monday, even as the Ohio Republican faces a House Ethics Committee investigation over domestic violence allegations. Johnson called Miller "a great member of Congress," the Washington Post reports, and confirmed he supports his reelection bid, describing the allegations against Miller to reporters as "some issues in his personal life he's working through." The same day, Miller was appearing by Zoom in a Cleveland courtroom, testifying in a civil case brought against him by Stephanie Grisham, a former girlfriend who was White House press secretary.

The Ethics Committee earlier this month opened a probe into accusations by Miller's ex-wife that he physically abused her and their young daughter, who was treated for a broken collarbone in February. Miller has rejected the allegations as lies tied to a contentious custody fight. Johnson, who said the panel will examine any implications of the case, added, "We've got to let due process play out." The lawsuit centers on a nondisclosure agreement Miller and Grisham signed in 2023; the congressman sued her for defamation after she accused him of being abusive during their relationship, per WEWS.
