Canada's next $20 bill is getting a new face and a new direction. The Bank of Canada has unveiled a vertically oriented note bearing King Charles III, the first time a new monarch has appeared on Canadian currency in more than seven decades, reports the BBC. The image of Charles will replace that of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, notes CTV. The new bill is set to enter circulation early next year, making Canada the first Commonwealth nation outside Britain to put Charles on its banknotes.

It's only the second vertical bill ever for Canada, after the Viola Desmond $10, which won global design honors in 2018. The reverse features France's Vimy Ridge memorial, a nod to Canada's World War I history, along with a floral tapestry that the bank says reflects the king's long-standing environmental focus.
