Private security stopped a woman who got onto Kamala Harris' property in Malibu on Friday night, reports the Los Angeles Times. Neither Harris nor husband Doug Emhoff was home at the time. Deputies arrived and issued a warning to the suspect but made no arrests, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff's property before the individual reached the home," said Harris spokesman Eduardo Negron in a statement, per NBC News. "They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly."
Politico notes that the incident will likely draw attention to Harris' security concerns. While then-President Biden extended her Secret Service protection beyond the standard six months, President Trump ended it last summer. State and local authorities have stepped in, but the cost hasn't been specified. After the trespassing incident, Malibu Lost Hills deputies said they would increase patrols.
