College rankings season is back. Forbes has released its 2027 list of America's Top Colleges, a data-heavy ranking of 500 schools that emphasize strong earnings, low debt, and solid outcomes across income levels—at a time when six-figure annual price tags and AI-driven job uncertainty are making the college decision feel riskier than ever. MIT lands at No. 1 for the second straight year. The ranking draws on 14 metrics, from graduation and retention rates to alumni pay and PhD production, while also weighing how much students borrow and what kind of return they see on that investment. The top 10:

  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  2. Princeton
  3. Harvard
  4. Columbia
  5. University of Pennsylvania
  6. Stanford
  7. California Institute of Technology
  8. Yale
  9. University of California, Berkeley
  10. Vanderbilt
