A story out of the Netherlands about a plane passenger breaking the rules and starting a fire mid-flight comes with a twist: The aforementioned passenger used to run the airline, reports Simple Flying. The culprit is identified as Camiel Eurlings, who was CEO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines more than a decade ago. It seems Eurlings decided to use a power bank during his KLM flight to Curacao, which is prohibited because of the fire risk from the lithium battery, per Metro.co.uk. Sure enough, his caught fire, forcing the plane to return to the Dutch capital.
Eurlings, who is said to have suffered minor injuries, is not expected to be penalized by the airline. Passengers had to spend the night in a hotel before resuming their journey. "If you are just a passenger, such a mistake can happen, but if you have monitored the company's house rules, this is very strange," one was quoted as telling local RTL News.
