That he didn't cause a crash is a miracle: A legally blind man drove about 150 miles at night on a busy freeway while over the limit for alcohol, reports the BBC. Anthony Hall, 50, was stopped on the M6 near Carlisle after police saw his car veering between lanes and onto the shoulder, say authorities. Hall, who has no driving license, told officers he took his partner's vehicle after they drank four bottles of wine. He said he was able to follow truck taillights for much of his drive, per the Telegraph.
Hall admitted dangerous driving, drink-driving, driving without a license or insurance, and taking a vehicle without consent. His lawyer described Hall, who went blind about two years ago, as "an individual in crisis" who felt trapped by his home life and finances and intended to reach Scotland. Magistrates imposed a 36-week prison term, suspended for 18 months, along with rehab requirements.
