Police say a 74-year-old hunter in Delaware mistook a woman for a deer and is now facing felony manslaughter charges. Walter Moorhead of Salisbury, Maryland, is accused of fatally shooting 39-year-old Santos Maria Chilel Soto, who was walking through the field with a man and two children in Ellendale on Friday evening, reports ABC News. The hunter shot from a camouflaged shelter, or "ground blind," about 7:40pm, per NBC News.
"Moorhead believed he saw a deer and fired his rifle, striking the victim," the Delaware State Police said in a statement. In addition to felony manslaughter, Moorhead faces three counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, along with a firearm charge. He was released on $43,000 cash bond.
