Byron Donalds' campaign website just got a quiet but notable makeover, NBC News reports. The Florida Republican, who blanketed his primary campaign for governor with reminders that he was "Trump-endorsed," has now stripped most references to the POTUS from his revamped site, leaving the nod in only a scrolling list of backers. A photo of Donalds and his wife with Trump was also moved to a less-prominent landing page, the Miami Herald reports.
A spokesman says the change reflects a shift to issues like affordability, insurance, and transparency, not a change of heart about Trump. But it comes as Trump's national approval ratings sag and other GOP candidates in key states also dial back their ties to him; the AP dives more deeply into that topic here. Donalds is now playing up an endorsement from Gov. Ron DeSantis, who remains more popular in Florida. Democrat candidate David Jolly, meanwhile, has refused to debate Donalds, saying, "You can't debate a liar."
