A morning show in Charlottesville, Virginia, abruptly turned into a resignation speech. Transgender DJ Fievel Crane used a Sept. 4 broadcast on 106.1 FM "The Corner" to announce they were quitting on air, calling their time at the Charlottesville Media Group-owned station "the most traumatic work experience I've ever had," per the Advocate. Crane alleged that management monitored their personal social media and blocked them from discussing topics including the war in Gaza, immigration enforcement, and local homelessness.
While saying listeners had embraced their transition and name change, Crane claimed that acceptance "has been in very short supply here at this company." After declaring "Free Palestine!," Crane signed off with a final set of protest songs. Charlottesville Media Group, a subsidiary of Saga Communications, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. LGBTQ Nation notes that fans were mostly supportive in the comments section of Crane's Instagram post on the matter. "What a mic drop!" one commenter wrote. Another added, "Congratulations on prioritizing authenticity and liberating yourself from that madness," while a third simply wrote, "Punk as f---."
