When a police dog helps apprehend a suspect, it's usually the suspect who gets bit. But the opposite happened in Los Angeles County, reports KTLA. Police in Redondo Beach say a K-9 named Wouter got bit in the ear by a man who had barricaded himself inside a home and refused to leave. "Wouter was deployed to assist officers and during apprehension, the suspect bit Wouter and tore off a portion of his ear," the department said in a Facebook post, along with images of the dog.

Police provided no details about the suspect, including his identity or the reason for the initial standoff, notes the Los Angeles Times. Nor was it clear whether he would face additional charges for allegedly biting Wouter. The dog, meanwhile, was taken to an animal hospital and is now off duty for a while. "Wishing our bestest boy a speedy recovery," the department's post said.
