Rick Ross spent Thursday morning in a Miami-Dade jail, accused of attacking a woman inside his waterfront home. The 50-year-old rapper, born William Leonard Roberts, is charged with battery by strangulation, a felony, after allegedly choking the woman until she couldn't breathe and slamming her into a wall at his Star Island residence, the Miami Herald reports. He also faces a misdemeanor battery charge. Ross appeared in bond court Thursday, where Judge Mindy Glazer set bail at $5,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim.
Details of the arrest affidavit have not been released. In Instagram posts over the weekend, a former girlfriend accused Ross of physical abuse and shared photos of her injuries, with one captioned, "The day Rick busted my lip and the day I left," People reports. "If a man hits you one time, he will do it again," model Jazzma Kendrick wrote. "Don't give him the opportunity. Value your life and leave."
- Steve Sador, an attorney for Ross, said he was being wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend, the AP reports. "The ex did not even file a police report until a month after the claimed incident allegedly took place," Sadow said in a statement. "Mr. Roberts is innocent and has pled not guilty to the charges. He respectfully requests that his friends, fans, and the general public not prejudge the situation and allow the judicial process to run its course."
