New Jersey's recent nor'easter didn't just flood streets—it briefly turned one into a shark channel. During heavy flooding in Surf City on Long Beach Island, resident Drew Procaccino filmed what appeared to be a shark gliding down a submerged neighborhood road, its fin cutting through the murky water before veering into a driveway and later heading toward Barnegat Bay, reports UPI. "Is that a little shark?" an incredulous person can be heard asking out of frame in Procaccino's footage.

Greg Skomal, a shark specialist with Massachusetts' Division of Marine Fisheries, reviewed the video and said the animal was a smooth dogfish shark, a species that typically sticks to coastal waters but, in this storm, found itself cruising a residential block. This type of shark can grow to be 5 feet long and typically consumes bony fish, squid, and crustaceans, per USA Today, citing the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey.
