A 27-year-old dual Iranian-British citizen has been arrested in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts linked to a suspected plot targeting a British military base that the US has used for bombing runs against Iran. Scotland Yard said Thursday that a 26-year-old British national has also been questioned, the Telegraph reports. Police said the dual national was arrested in Westminster and two properties in the area have been searched.

Five men in their 20s who were arrested near RAF Fairford on explosives and terror charges were released on bail Monday. Police said they found "a quantity" of gasoline in three vans linked to the men, but no explosives. The investigation is "hugely complex," senior counterterrorism coordinator Vicki Evans said Thursday. She said specialist teams are "looking at all possible angles—including possible foreign state involvement."

  • Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Wednesday that there are "strong indications" that Iran was involved in the incident, a claim that Iran strongly rejected, the BBC reports. Abbas Aragchi, Iran's foreign minister, said Burnham was "barking up the wrong tree," adding, "I can confirm Iran's belief that releasing supposed terrorists working for foreign states really says it all." Burnham said the five men were under the "strictest possible bail conditions."
