It started as a stunt for clicks and ended with a trip to police headquarters. Philadelphia authorities say a content creator seen in a viral video hurling a cheesesteak at an employee at Pat's King of Steaks surrendered Thursday, a day after the South Philly incident sparked an assault probe. Charges are pending, reports WPVI, and police are reviewing footage the man himself posted, in which he claims he throws food at workers if he dislikes it. "The guy played with the sandwich. I have it on video, just ripped the sandwich apart with his hands," owner Frank Olivieri tells NBC10 of the incident that involved 47-year employee Tom Francano. "The guy picked the sandwich up and threw it in his face and ran away, the coward." Olivieri had offered a $5,000 reward.
Pat's co-owner Rita Marie Oliveri, whose family's shop has operated for nearly a century, called the act "an assault" and said the phone has been "ringing nonstop" with support. Even rival Geno's Steaks publicly backed Pat's, with one representative noting, "That's somebody's grandfather." Pat's now plans to ban cameras.
