Disabled Vet Nixes New Run for Congress

A decorated disabled Iraq war vet announced she won't launch a second battle for an Illinois congressional seat, despite losing the last election to a Republican by less than 3%. Tammy Duckworth, who lost  her legs in a grenade attack on a helicopter she was co-piloting, said she'll continue her current job as state director of veterans' affairs.

"I think I have done more for veterans than Congress," she said.  She left the door open to a future run. The district west of Chicago where Duckworth ran has long been a GOP stronghold. The race was one of the most hotly contested in the nation; Democrats are still hopeful they can pull off a win in 2008.
