Crime | Casey Anthony State Wants Anthony Jurors to Smell Car 'Death' Odor Prosecutors say can smells of Caylee's decomposed remains By Evann Gastaldo Posted May 16, 2011 10:25 AM CDT Copied This undated file photo released by the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Fla. on Friday, July 18, 2008, shows Caylee Marie Anthony. (AP Photo/Orange County Sheriff's Office, File) In a 911 call after her granddaughter disappeared, Casey Anthony's mother described her daughter's car as smelling like death. Jurors may be asked to take a whiff of that scent if prosecutors get their way, WTSP reports. Prosecutors have a can they say contains the odor of Caylee Anthony's decomposed remains, and at least one juror has been asked if he had any problems with smelling evidence. Judge Belvin Perry isn't sure he'll allow it, however: "I wouldn't be counting too much on it," he said after jurors were dismissed. "Though I am willing to be persuaded." Perry is concerned that a conviction could be reversed on appeal if jurors are allowed to smell the can, which holds a piece of Anthony's car trunk liner, and he has barred the state from asking more jurors about it. Prosecutors are looking for a legal precedent that could persuade the judge to give the can the OK. Read These Next Miami-Dade may have made a $400 million mistake.
