Young Girl's Drowning Now a Homicide Investigation

Investigators in California are no longer treating a 3-year-old girl's death at Don Pedro Reservoir as an accident. The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office has reclassified its inquiry into the July drowning of Lailah Rosillo of Modesto as a homicide investigation, Sheriff David Vasquez told county supervisors, reports the Modesto Bee. Vasquez did not elaborate but said his office was seeking information from people who were present at the popular recreation spot on July 18. Authorities released a grainy image of a blue raft the girl was believed to have been on with others before her death.

"That is an active investigation right now," said Vasquez, per SFGate. "We are treating it as a homicide." Authorities initially received a call about a missing girl, and before they reached the scene, they were receiving calls about an unresponsive girl pulled from the Fleming Meadows Lagoon, a swimming area at the site. Deputies who arrived via a boat patrol were unable to revive her, reports CBS News.
