Britney Spears has checked herself into treatment, her rep says, though the why and where remain under wraps, NBC News reports. The representative confirmed the 44-year-old pop star entered a facility but declined to share further details. TMZ, citing unnamed sources, reports she's in a US rehab center for substance abuse. "She realizes she hit rock bottom," one of those sources says. The gossip site alleges Spears has struggled with not only alcohol abuse but also with Adderall, a drug typically used to treat ADHD.
The move follows Spears' March arrest on suspicion of DUI in Ventura County, Calif. At the time, her rep called the incident "completely inexcusable" and suggested it could mark the start of "long overdue change" in Spears' life. Fans have been voicing concern over her often-erratic Instagram presence, including videos of her dancing alone at home and a widely discussed clip involving knives that she later said were props. Spears, who gained fame in the late '90s and spent 13 years under a conservatorship before it ended in 2021, last shared one of her dance videos on Saturday and posted a photo Friday with a caption about people trying to make her "larger than life." She has two adult sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline, and TMZ reports they're happy she's getting help. Her rep had earlier said they would be involved in supporting her in the wake of her arrest, People reports.
