Bill Maher says he went to the White House for civil conversation and instead received a 1,318-word presidential takedown. In Friday's episode of Real Time With Bill Maher, the HBO host devoted part of his monologue to dissecting President Trump's lengthy Truth Social post that labeled him a "complete and total loser" and recast details of their recent dinner, per the Hollywood Reporter. "I tell you, dining at the White House is the opposite of the Cheesecake Factory," Maher said, USA Today reports. "After you leave, they review you." One of Maher's guests on the show was Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, who pronounced the monologue "funny as hell."
Maher mocked the sheer length of Trump's post, denied "incessantly" calling him, and pushed back on the president's claim that Maher opposed efforts to curb Iran's nuclear program, airing past clips to argue the opposite. He shrugged off being branded a "major POTHEAD" and said the original point of such meetings was to disagree but not "hate each other"—a goal he suggested hasn't survived the online fallout. During the dinner itself, Maher said, Trump was polite, adding that he "could not have been treated better if I was Russian."
