Utz is telling some chip lovers to put the bags down. The company has pulled select Zapp's and Dirty brand potato chips sold nationwide over concerns a seasoning ingredient could be contaminated with salmonella, reports Today. No illnesses have been reported, but Utz says it's acting "out of an abundance of caution" after learning that a dry milk powder used in certain seasonings—sourced from California Dairies through a supplier—was itself recalled.
The move affects nine products: three flavors of Zapp's (including Bayou Blackened Ranch, Salt and Vinegar, and Big Cheezy) in multiple sizes, and three flavors of Dirty chips (Salt and Vinegar, Maui Onion, and Sour Cream and Onion) in 2-ounce bags. All recalled bags have best-by dates of July or August 2026 and specific batch codes listed by the FDA. Consumers are advised not to eat the affected chips, and to watch for symptoms if they have recently consumed them, reports the Los Angeles Times. They can contact Utz customer care at 1-877-423-0149 for questions or refunds. The FDA website also has photos of the affected products.
