Bonnie Tyler is off the stage and in a hospital in Portugal, where the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" singer is recovering from emergency intestinal surgery and has been placed in a medically induced coma. The Welsh star's representative confirmed on Thursday that doctors put the 74-year-old into the coma to support her recovery and asked fans to respect her privacy, adding that more information will be released when possible, per ABC News.

A statement on Tyler's website said the surgery in Faro, near her home in Portugal, "went well" and that she's now recuperating. As of Thursday, her official site still lists her upcoming tour schedule, including a May 22 appearance at music festival in Malta and European and UK dates running through mid-December. Tyler, a mainstay of 1980s pop with hits like "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out for a Hero," most recently released her 18th studio album, The Best Is Yet to Come, in 2021. As for her most famous song, Tyler has previously said she still gets "excited" to hear "Total Eclipse" when it comes on the radio.
