In a wide-ranging sit-down with former President Biden's son, the conservative commentator apologized directly for turning his addiction and scandals into fodder, saying she felt "s----y" about fueling the pile-on around his lowest moments, Mediaite reports. "I just saw you as a caricature, and it was definitely, like I said, like feeling gaslit by the political machine, convinced that it was just the left that partook in this political machine," she said, adding that she didn't take a moment to think, "just look at this guy at the worst moment of his life."
Biden, who spoke about his recovery, described finding a sense of peace with his past, saying he'd survived being publicly stripped down and mocked. Owens, who has lately found herself at odds with President Trump, then reflected on how social media-era outrage makes it difficult for people to recover from their mistakes, admitting she'd joined in the "inhumanity" of mocking Biden over drugs and sex scandals. She called that approach "gross" and "warped," adding that it's not the kind of commentator she wants to be. Per the Hollywood Reporter, the interview was set up after podcaster Shawn Ryan asked Owens to name her dream guest and she said Biden; Ryan had the whole thing set up within days. The New York Times calls the interview "warm" and lists five notable moments, including the fact that Biden suggested they visit the Vatican together.
