Mahomes' Deal Passes $500M

The first preseason game is two months away, but Patrick Mahomes just set a couple of records. The Kansas City Chiefs and their star quarterback have agreed to a reworked contract that ties him to the team through 2033 and carries a total value of $504.75 million from 2026 to 2033, ESPN reports. The deal, the NFL's first deal to cross the $500 million mark, was finalized on Wednesday. The contract could climb to $522.25 million with incentives and escalators, and the "new money" portion is pegged at $239.05 million. Once the revised terms kick in for 2027, Mahomes will average a record $64 million per season; the first four years of the extension are guaranteed.

"Worth every penny," Dan Orlovsky, a former quarterback who's now an ESPN analyst, posted on X, per ProFootballNetwork.com. In a statement, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt called Mahomes a "generational talent" who has helped deliver five Super Bowl appearances and three titles while boosting the franchise's profile. The 30-year-old, a two-time MVP, is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in December, per NBC Sports. He's progressed to seven-on-seven work and said he's aiming to be ready for the season's first game on Sept. 14.
