Elon Musk's emojis aren't going over well at Binance. After news broke late Thursday that the crypto giant had been hit by a $6.3 billion hack, Musk reacted on X with laughing and grimacing emojis, reports CNBC. They caught the attention, and the apparent ire, of Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao. "Elon, have a lot of respect for you, but bad time to troll," he wrote. "Please stop. ... Would appreciate it if you show a little support." Zhao also reminded Musk that Binance holds more than $1 billion in SpaceX shares via its $500 million backing of Musk's Twitter takeover.
The massive hack, by a team suspected to be from North Korea, removed money from digital wallets at Binance, though the company insists that customers will be covered by an emergency fund, per the Wall Street Journal. When an online commentator compared Zhao's assurances to those of Sam Bankman-Fried when FTX was cratering, Musk responded with a grimace emoji, prompting Zhao's rejoinder. The hack is the largest crypto heist ever and has rattled the broader markets, with bitcoin down about 5% to roughly $76,000.
