Yoga enthusiasts gathered around the world on Sunday to mark the International Day of Yoga, the AP reports. This year, the annual tribute to yoga coincided with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. The event was India's idea, endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. "Yoga is among the world's oldest and most enduring practices for human health and wellbeing," wrote Dr. Catharina Boehme of the World Health Organization. "It is a holistic discipline that integrates physical activity, breath regulation, mindfulness, and meditation, supporting physical function, mental well-being, and social connectedness."
