A skydiving plane crashed in northeastern France on Sunday, killing all 11 people on board, per the AP. The plane crashed near the city of Nancy at 11am, said Yves Seguy, prefect of the Meurthe-et-Moselle region. It fell "suddenly, in the immediate vicinity of the airfield," Seguy said, adding that nobody on the ground was hurt. The cause is still under investigation. The crash follows a similar one in the US earlier this month that killed 12 people and raised safety questions about such aircraft.
The plane, which belonged to a parachutist school, was carrying five students and five instructors in addition to the pilot, reports CNN. There were no survivors. "Give or take a few meters and the accident could have caused collateral casualties," said Seguy, noting a nearby shopping center.
