A popular Oregon swimming spot has claimed another life, this time that of a 21-year-old Wichita State University student. Kenny Truong of Wichita, Kansas, jumped into Tamolitch Falls in Willamette National Forest, also known as Blue Pool, on Friday evening and began struggling in the frigid water, authorities said, per Fox News. Witnesses saw him trying to reach shore before he went under; despite bystanders' attempts to help and a multi-agency rescue response, he could not be saved.

Truong was a finance major and student investor at Wichita State, remembered by a family spokesperson as a devoted friend. He's now one of many people to have died at the site, according to the Lane County Sheriff's Office. The spring-fed pool is "infamous for drownings," per People. It averages 37 degrees, cold enough to trigger shock, and is ringed by cliffs as high as 60 feet, with little to no cell service and difficult access for rescuers. Authorities urge visitors to treat Blue Pool as "beautiful and dangerous."
